Pet accidents happen. Unfortunately, when urine gets into a rug it does far more than create a temporary smell. Pet urine can penetrate deep into the fibers, foundation, and backing of the rug where it forms crystals that continue to cause odor and damage long after the original accident.
Many rugs we receive at our Easton rug washing facility have already been “cleaned” once or twice before arriving here, yet the odor returns as soon as humidity rises or the rug becomes slightly damp. That’s because the real problem was never fully removed.
Urine Crystals: When urine dries, it leaves behind salt crystals that bind to the rug fibers and foundation. These crystals are extremely difficult to remove with standard carpet cleaning methods.
Even if the surface looks clean, those crystals remain deep inside the rug. When moisture is introduced again through humidity or another cleaning attempt, the crystals reactivate and the odor returns.
Proper pet urine rug cleaning requires flushing the rug completely so those crystals are dissolved and removed from the rug structure.
Odor Removal: The odor associated with pet urine does not come from the liquid itself. The smell develops as bacteria break down the urine deposits trapped in the rug.
Surface cleaning or deodorizing products may temporarily mask the smell, but they do not remove the source. That is why many homeowners notice the odor returning days or weeks after cleaning.
At our rug washing facility in Easton, rugs are thoroughly washed and rinsed to remove the odor-causing residues from deep within the fibers and foundation.
Contamination Treatment: Urine contamination is more than just a smell problem. Over time it can cause dye bleeding, fiber damage, and deterioration of the rug’s foundation.
A contaminated rug must be treated carefully to neutralize the urine deposits and safely wash away the contamination without harming delicate wool or silk fibers.
Our process is designed specifically for Oriental and fine rugs, allowing us to remove contamination while protecting the structure and value of the rug.
